Pineapple Express is the beautiful byproduct of the Trainwreck and Hawaiian strains. This sativa-dominant hybrid’s popularity stems mostly from the popular film Pineapple Express, starring two of. TheNug’s favorite celebrity smokers, Seth Rogan and James Franco.
Let me start out by saying that although this strain creates a delightful, full-bodied high, just as Hollywood tends to embellish, the Pineapple Express strain was not as amazing as the film makes it out to be. Pineapple Express does provide pain relief without draining your energy. Honestly this strain should be better known for its effects and medicinal qualities than from some film, albeit a fairly good one.
Looks and Smell
The Pineapple Express buds were a super pale shade of green with brighter green patches dotting the landscape. It had a frosty appearance that did not necessarily translate to potency, which was only around 17% THC. Still the pure white crystals filled up every nook and cranny of each bud, and there was also a nice coverage of long, dark orange hairs. It definitiely produces aesthetically pleasing nugs.
The smell of Pineapple Express is similar to apples and mangos, with a subtle undertone of pineapple. This honestly was kind of disappointing since the name led me to believe that the pineapple taste would be more prominent.
This time, my bong was my weapon of choice. The smoke from the bong is extremely smooth and didn’t produce much coughing, if any, or harshness on the lungs and throat. Instantly you begin to feel the medicine enter your system as your brain starts to relax. All anxiety and stress are wash away in about 2-3 hits from the bong. You experience a very uplifting and energetic feeling for roughly 2-3 hours, follow by a mellow body buzz.
Before the onset of the buzz, however, the Pineapple Express strain offers a number of cerebral effects. These effects are describe as both stimulating and calming with both heightene mood and senses. More experience users feel energize from using this strain and report that it increases creativity, focus, and awareness.
Pineapple Express seems to provide some pain relief without draining you of your energy (aka, no couch lock). This strain should be known for its effects and strong medicinal properties rather than its lack of unique taste and aroma. A B+/A- strain, I only wish it taste more like pineapples.
The powerful cerebral effects are the number one reason Pineapple Express is chosen for medicinal purposes by patients and recreational users. Aside from easing stress and anxiety, this hybrid can be great at lessening the symptoms of chronic depression as well. The strain has also been found effective in treating appetite and nausea issues.
